Review: Bleacke's Geek (Bleacke's Shifters Series Book 1) by Lesli Richardson

Bleacke's Geek Bleacke's Geek by Lesli Richardson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Refreshingly Different Paranormal Romance

Dewi Bleake is a Prime Alpha female wolf shifter. She’s also head enforcer for her brother’s pack in the Florida area. She is tough, competent and ruthless. On a job, taking out an evil piece of work, she scents her mate.

Dr Heathcliffe McKenzie Etherlbert is a professor at the local university. He is quiet, unassuming and insecure. He’s in a bar grading papers when a stunning woman drags him to the bathroom for sex, before shooting a strange man and whisking him away to her home. ‘Ken’ as Dewi decides to call him, is dragged into a new world in a state of shock and surprisingly quick acceptance.

I really enjoyed this book. It turned a lot of PNR tropes on it’s head by having the alpha in the relationship being a woman who sweeps the human male off his feet. I particularly enjoyed how finding each other started to transform the couple into much more happy and balanced people, as they found acceptance from the person they loved. The author reveals their past and their personalities with a deft hand and it makes this an emotionally satisfying read.

I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series as the characters established in this book continue on their journey and we learn more about them, the people they care about and the world in which they live.

Review: Kale (Texas Kings MC Series Book 1) by Cee Bowerman

Kale Kale by Cee Bowerman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Match Made In Heaven

If you have read the Texas Knights MC series you will have already met Kale. He is a dark, dangerous man with a hidden marshmallow side. He loves animals and babies, and they love him right back. Watching his honorary cousins Sam and Zeke fall in love has made him wonder if he could have a long term relationship like they do. Lisa, Zeke’s Old Lady, met a woman in prison, Terra. Terra protected Lisa and became like a sister. After 10 years inside, she’s finally getting out in 6 months. Lisa suggests that Kale write to Terra because she thinks they are perfect for each other.

Terra has spent her time inside well, obtaining two degrees. She also works in the office and teaches a yoga class, however she was turned down for parole, which on the good side means she can leave the state when she gets out. Lisa has invited her to come and live in her old apartment next door and as Terra has no family she jumps at the chance. To keep herself going she agrees to write to Kale.

A big chunk of this book is spent before Kale and Terra even meet. We get to read their letters to each other and it’s a great way of getting to know them both. I liked the way those letters let us see the way Kale started to change as he began to really look forward to hearing from Terra.

These two characters are well matched and like that the book isn’t all hearts and flowers for these strong willed and ruthless individuals.

This series is much darker than the Texas Knights MC series. The members of this MC are much more ruthless and willing to maim and kill in order to right wrongs. They are a much more aggressive group of people and more of them have done time. Though this series is darker, it was by no means oppressively dark. There is still a lightness to stories and I enjoyed the added depth to the characters this darkness added.

I will definitely be reading more of this series, because I really like this new set of characters, and seeing guest appearances from the old ones too.

Review: Lucky Forever (Texas Knights MC Series Book 3) by Cee Bowerman

Lucky Forever: Texas Knights MC, Book 3 Lucky Forever: Texas Knights MC, Book 3 by Cee Bowerman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sweet Marriage of Convenience Story

This is the third in the series but does stand alone if wanted. It’s a really sweet story about Rowdy a 25 year old single Dad with a 12 year old daughter. He pretty much raised his daughter along with himself. He’s kind, loving and gentle. He has a great relationship with his daughter.

Sierra also had her daughter young, aged 15. She’s living in Kari’s apartments for abused spouses. She’s on the run from her ex-husband.

Their daughters are in gymnastics together and are great friends and the night Sierra and Rowdy meet, Sierra has the biggest stroke of luck a broke single mother could get, only she’s scared to cash in on it because it might lead to her abusive husband finding her. This leads to some surprising suggestions from Rowdy.

This is a marriage of convenience story/insta-like turns to love story. It’s sweet and fuzzy and I enjoyed it tremendously as an escape from the real world. Sadly, once again their were character names mixed up. I hope that some of the later works have better proof readers, though I know I’ll probably read the books anyway because they make me smile.

Review: The Bliss Drip (Rozalyn Hunt Series Book 1) by Liddie Cain

The Bliss Drip The Bliss Drip by Liddie Cain
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Interesting World Building

Rozalyn owns her own spa. She works and lives with her best friend who is more like a sister. Her parents are fantastic and life is pretty good, despite not really having much success in the romance department.

Then her ex, Mac, turns up. He’s not quite the same as she remembers because she can tell he is now a vampire. He left her with little warning and no explanation and she never really recovered from that heartbreak. Now he’s back to take over as the Vampire Magistrate for the area and she is to become his Medium, the human liaison between humans and vampires who manages the safe donation of blood. This introduces her to the supernatural world, which only recently become public and she even gets an angel as her receptionist.

The author starts out quite slowly building up the characters and the world they inhabit and then starts to ramp up the plot and the tension. She incorporates passion and emotion along with bonds of friendship and family into her story and it makes for a richer experience.

The story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger but it’s not one that will make you throw your kindle at the wall!

Review: Aurora Blazing (Consortium Rebellion Series Book 2) by Jessie Mihalik

Aurora Blazing Aurora Blazing by Jessie Mihalik
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I adored the first book in this series and felt that this second book was slightly less enjoyable, though it good book. I listened to the audio version, as I did the first book and had the same problems with the narrator, Emily Woo Zeller. She is a gifted narrator and gives personality to her characters but she does insist on using voices that only come across as caricatures, especially the mens’ voices. I feel that her ability to narrate would be better served by avoiding this ‘acting’ part of her narration. She’s good at sounding natural in her delivery and it’s a shame that the voices distract from the story. This hasn’t stopped me buying the third book in the series as an audio version.

Lady Bianca is the third born child of the Von Hasenberg House of the three ruling High Houses of the Consortium. She is very private and rebels in her own secret way against her father who rules his children with an iron fist. Bianca only managed to escape her abusive arranged marriage when her husband died and was sent back home with no assets from her marriage. Though there is no love between father and children, this is not the case between the siblings who are all very close and extremely loyal. When Ferdinand the heir to the House is kidnapped the prime information gatherer of the House, Bianca, starts to search the hidden networks and information sources for news of her brother. When she reaches a dead end, she leaves the safety of Earth, against explicit orders, to find more leads.

Ian, is head of security for House Von Hasenberg, and is exceptional at his job. He takes it as a direct insult when Ferdinand is taken and then Bianca escaping off-planet. When Ian finally catches up with Bianca, they have to find a way to work together to find Ferdinand before time runs out.

This story was a bit more predictable than the first in the series, probably because the reader has more information about the family and the universe in which they live. There was less world building, but there was more detail about the way the Houses operate. There was still plenty of action, just not as much because Bianca is a much more cerebral character than Ada, her sister. I actually felt like there should be more about Ian and Bianca and I hope that they make an appearance in the next book, because the ending was very abrupt and everything has kind of been left hanging. There is a HFN, but it could easily be undone, so I hope that is handled in the next book. Other than that, it was an enjoyable book and I look forward to reading the next one.

StarPyre: A Scifi Alien Abduction Prison Romance StarPyre: A Scifi Alien Abduction Prison Romance by Jade Waltz
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Alien Smut

I have no problem with Alien Smut. I enjoy it, however this book had very little storyline and a large quantity of smut. I was a little disappointed by Jade Waltz’s Project Adapt series has large quantities of alien smut but also interesting characters and storylines.

Basically this is a short summer read designed to get your loins to tingle and not much else. If it’s what you are in the mood for I’m sure it will hit your buttons. I was frustrated thought because there were flashes of story that got my hopes up, as they hinted at depth of character, and then the story slid along again. I understand that with shorter stories you can’t go as in depth as with a full length novel, but it frustrated me because I know what this author is capable of doing given a longer book.

Review: Amber (Jewels Cafe Series Book 1) by Mia Harlan

Amber Amber by Mia Harlan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Simple Straight Forward PNR RH Fun

Amber and Julian have been best friends for 6 years. After graduating college for those with wonky magic they decide to open a cafe in a supernatural town, where wards prevent humans from seeing anything supernatural. They are completely broke and the cafe is not making any money.

Amber is miserable because she has loved her best friend since they met and they are living and working together and she doesn’t want to ruin anything by telling him how she feels. She’s also worried they’ll have to sell up and she’ll never really see him again.

Then Julian decides to cast a spell on the Pumpkin Spice Latte that Amber drinks and everything goes haywire.

It’s a very straight forward plot, based on nice world building. The characters are sweet and endearing and there is no angst. It’s light and sweet and a little saucy. The book is complete escapism and is a very fast read.

Review: Forever Family (Texas Knights MC Series Book 2) by Cee Bowerman

Forever Family Forever Family by Cee Bowerman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sweet Romance

I really enjoyed this book. It’s the second in the series and you should read the first book to get the full benefit, as it deals with some of the same events but told from the point of the view of the main characters for this book, Lisa and Zeke.

Lisa has had a pretty cruddy life. She was born in Utah and her mother was one of the 11 wives her father had. She was one of 33 children and she was taken away and put in foster care when she was 12. She had bad luck time and time again with the people she trusted, until she ended up saving Carlie’s life the year before. The act ended up saving her life too, as it helped her escape her captor.

Carlie wanted to return to Texas where she had loved Sam, Zeke’s brother and Lisa, who had become her assistant, came with her. As soon as Lisa and Zeke met there were was attraction. Even with Lisa as badly damaged as she was she could tell that Zeke was safe to be around. She also found herself feeling the same way about all the men in Zeke’s family.

There are couple of moments in this book that make you almost say ‘aw’ out loud, especially the bits where the big strong men and cooing over little babies. So sweet!

The main problem I had with this book is that there was some character name mix ups on more than one occasion and it ruined the flow as I had to work out what I was reading. There were some minor typos and grammatical errors but it was the character mix ups that annoyed me the most. However, that been said, I really enjoyed the book and really want to read the next one now!

Review: Providence (Damnation MC Series Book 2) by Grace McGinty

Providence Providence by Grace McGinty
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

All Loved Up With A Side of Murderous Mayhem

I’d probably give this 4.5 ⭐️ if I could.

This book rounds out the books about Seredipity, but plenty of breadcrumbs have been dropped to make me believe they will be guest stars in future books about Damnation MC (which I believe must be coming otherwise all the breadcrumbs would be a waste of time and talent.)

At the end of the last book Serendipity was struggling with childbirth as a major cliff hanger. Thankfully that is dealt with by angelic intervention and we learn about where Sera came from and why she spent her life alone without support.

The first half of the book is all about Sera and the guys settling down into a new pattern, being loved up, loads of hot sex, which apparently is possible just days after childbirth if you are an immortal with angel helping you heal.

The second half of the book is blood and guts with a side order of hot sex. You can’t really expect anything else about a book starring the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse now can you? It’s also got some very sweet moments between the members of the group and in particular their interactions with the kids.

The book was well paced and the characters had depth to them. I really hope that the world continues, in particular that the Damnation MC continues with it’s next generation of members, because this world, created so lovingly, is pretty damn awesome.

Review: Home Forever (Texas Knights MC Series Book 1) by Cee Bowerman

Home Forever Home Forever by Cee Bowerman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Sweet MC Romance

I seem to be on a bit of an MC kick at the moment and this popped up as a recommended series to read. I decided to start at the beginning and found a really sweet MC romance.

Carlie is moving back to Rojo, Texas after an 11 year absence. Her life is finally getting back on track after the trauma of recent years and she can’t wait to see the people she loved but had to leave behind.

Sam has been waiting to find out what happened to Carlie for 11 years. He’s never been able to find someone who could make him feel the way Carlie did and hates never knowing what happened to make her leave without warning.

Carlie returns with her uncle, her friend/assistant Lisa and her rescue pit bull, Tuff, desperate to start the rest of her life.

This is a sweet romance and the MC is of the ‘doing good’ variety, which about community and supporting those less fortunate. The trouble that comes is from the outside and is nothing to do with the MC. In fact the MC isn’t very front and centre in this book, it’s just there around the edges of the story.

I really enjoyed the book, which sounds odd for a 3 star review, but it was a good book, there just wasn’t much tension or progression of the characters. Bad things were talked about but didn’t seem to have much impact on the characters or their journey. This is not necessarily a bad thing, if you are looking for a nice soothing escape from reality without any angst, which I sometimes am. I will probably read other books in the series when I’m in the same mood, though according to star ratings this was the lowest rated book in the series.

Review: Sol & Lune Book 1 by Kathryn Moon

Sol & Lune Sol & Lune by Kathryn Moon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book starts with the arrival of General Dominic Westbrook and his troops at the Manor of Lumen Fenn, the last of her family to survive the decades long war between the gods of Lune and Sol. Westbrooks’ usual method of taking manor houses is to strip them of assets whilst enjoying the company of any young women to take his fancy, before passing them onto his friends Gideon Jones, his second in command, and Finley Brinks his medical officer. All three men have been hardened by their lives, none of them in the army by choice and they have lived most of their lives killing people and holding control on hard men who live by killing others. It’s a hard and difficult life and they are hard and difficult men.

Lumen refuses to leave her family home, handed to her on her mother’s death after generations of following the matriarchal line. All she wants to do is protect her people and her home. She knows she will be taken by the General and will have little choice in it.

Lumen loves her Mother Goddess, Lune and worships her with her whole heart, every full moon telling the truth all day and every new moon spent in fasting and meditation and in silence. She finds peace and beauty in her worship. When the General takes her she accepts her fate and tries to continue living her life according to Lune’s dictates including nursing the injured soldiers, using all her hard learnt knowledge passed on by her mother’s expertise and patience.

Lumen’s ability to show tenderness and compassion to her enemies and to sacrifice herself without bitterness draws the General and his two friends to her life moths to a flame. Sharing her body opens her up to sharing her heart and risk it breaking.

This is a heartbreaking and beautiful story, which is delicately nuanced as it explores the passion and emotions of those in a war they don’t believe in. It catalogues the erosion of society during the bleakest of times.

This is fantasy novel, but it explores things that are relevant to modern life, especially how people behave in war. It’s beautifully written and ripped my heart out several times. Lumen is stunning character who is forced to explore her feelings and beliefs to the point of fracture and her beautiful soul shines through every page.

Review: Lola & the Millionaires: Part Two (Sweet Omegaverse Series Book 3) by Kathryn Moon

Lola & the Millionaires: Part Two Lola & the Millionaires: Part Two by Kathryn Moon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’d probably give this book 4.5 stars if I could.

Once again this book is written from multiple points of view, however the majority are from Lola’s POV.

This second part of the duet ramps up the peril and heat, with Lola being perused by her stalker. She goes away with Leo for the weekend and when she returns home finds her apartment has been broken into and her clothing destroyed. Unable to get through to Leo her instincts tell her to call Wes, the protector of the pack, and he comes running. This increased peril helps Lola decide to move in with the pack for a while, for her own safety.

I really liked how this book dealt with Lola’s emotional difficulties, the way she put herself down all the time and her fear of alphas. She instantly fell for Leo, a fellow beta and almost as fast for Rake, an omega, but the alphas had to work a bit harder to gain her trust. I was pleased to see that Lola finally decided to get some counselling, after avoiding it for over a year.

As a result of tackling her fears head on there are some quite emotional parts to the book. They handled deftly, but there are still things that could be triggering for people whose triggers are centred around sexual assault.

As Lola’s emotions and problems settle down more we are treated her increased closeness to all of the pack, which also includes the sexual encounters, which are recounted with relish by the author. As more people are included in the relationship the longer the sex scenes are!

We are also introduced to a deadly alpha hitwoman, Eve, who seems to be protective of Lola from the outset. I’m curious about her character and it wouldn’t surprise me if a book popped up about her in the future, because it seems to me that the author appeared to enjoy the character quite a lot. She didn’t need to play such a large role in this book for the impact she had. It would round out the series nicely too, having a book about an omega (Baby and The Late Night Howlers), a beta (Lola and the Millionaires) and followed up by a book about an alpha (Eve the psychopathic hitwoman). I think the title I made up could use some work, but I’m not an author.

This book definitely lives up to the first part of the duet and rounds it out perfectly. It’s a great emotional and spicy read.

Review: Lola & the Millionaires: Part One (Sweet Omegaverse Series Book 2) by Kathryn Moon

Lola & the Millionaires: Part One Lola & the Millionaires: Part One by Kathryn Moon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’d probably give this book 4.5  if I could.

There is a trigger warning at the front of the book and if sexual assault is triggering for you in any way, this book is probably not for you. There are references to the assault and there are flashback portions throughout the book, so it’s hard to avoid, though the flashbacks are in italics.

First off a quick note about the Omegaverse. I didn’t understand about this concept when I read the first book in this world. In this book there is an explanation at the front about what this means. This is based in an alternate world where humans have certain primal traits that manage their society and sexuality. These are not shifters, they are different types of humans, broken up into alphas, betas and omegas. Alphas tend to be protective, nurturing, assertive and determined. Omegas are soft and tender-hearted and need to be protected and nurtured. There is a need between alphas and omegas for each other both psychologically and sexually. Betas are the people who fit in between, that have much less pushing on them hormonally. Alphas form packs and hope to have a omega to centre in that pack. Some packs have betas in them too. Omegas also go into heat every so often and need to be sexually satisfied during this time.

This is the first book in a duet, with the second book already released. This duet is a spin off from Baby and The Late Night Howlers, but you probably don’t need to read that book to have this one make sense, but it does add to the enjoyment. Lola is the best friend of Baby, who was a beta who went through a late change to omega. Lola always wanted to be an omega and when Baby transitioned it hurt her, especially as Baby never wanted it. Lola ended up getting involved with a group of alpha bikers, like Baby did, but the bikers she hooked up with, The Hangmen, were nowhere near as nice as Baby’s pack. They abused her and it took her a while to get away. After she did so the pack was broken up but they weren’t all captured. This all happened in Baby and The Late Night Howlers, however it was told from Baby’s point of view so a lot of information was missing in that first book.

It’s a year since Lola got away from The Hangmen and she’s a bit of a wreck. She’s just bought an apartment in a rough area and sunk all her savings into it after living with her cousin all that time. Her cousin David has just got her a job of her dreams at a fashion magazine and she’s going to work in the beauty section. She’s terrified she’s going to be working with an alpha but she thinks being in groups in an office will be ok, but she desperately needs and wants the job.

When she meets a beta in her office building, that she almost had a hook up with a few days before, they reconnect and she finds herself starting to wonder if she could have a relationship with a beta, even if he were in a pack.

This book is very interesting. It’s filled with complex relationships and emotions and I really enjoyed getting my teeth into how the different people within the pack worked together. I particularly loved how gently they all treated her, without being smothering. They accepted her fragility and protected it, but they didn’t discourage her from anything as a result. All the guys were interesting and different and I loved seeing their personalities slowly revealed as Lola got to know them.

The plot outside of Lola’s relationships was also interesting with shenanigans at work and a potential stalker. But the main thing that kept things moving was the slow building of tension between Lola and the guys in the pack. The point of view did change through the book, so it wasn’t always from Lola’s point of view, and that made it interesting as we got to see inside the minds of some of the guys for a chapter, which revealed their feelings, even if Lola couldn’t read them herself.

It’s a really good book, filled with emotion and passion and well worth a read.

Review: Trick of Fae (These Hallowed Hills Series Book 1) by S L Mason

Trick of Fae Trick of Fae by S.L. Mason
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a free book that I thought I’d take a punt at and I am SOOOOO glad I did. I had never heard of the author and ‘fairy tale re-tellings’ are kind of a bit overdone in my opinion, so I wasn’t hoping for much, but I always live in hope with free books.

Sarah is an ordinary normal girl. She has two loving parents, her very practical and thorough father that prepares her for everything he can, and a mother who loves her daughter but lives in fear over everything. Her father is a military veteran so his preparation skills are top notch and he tried to pass on as many as he could to his 17 year old daughter. She is neither popular nor unpopular, but her best friend Arty says she is pretty and kind. She considers herself ordinary and is perfectly happy with that.

Then one night the Fae came. They killed so many people around the world, and stole thousands of young people. There were dead bodies lying in the streets and they just lined up to be taken away. Sarah and Arty were lucky enough to escape and Sarah’s practical father saved them. Then they had to work out how to stay free and alive when faced with not only the Fae but the remaining humans.

This book was incredibly well written. The style of narration was smooth and natural sounding. The description of the surrounding world was excellent and the characters shone through every word. Sarah is a very interesting character. Her keen mind and determination are blended with compassion and the kindness Arty described.

I loved that this really isn’t a fairy tale re-telling, but a brand new kind of fairy tale, one where the Fae attack the humans on a massive scale and nobody knows why. They come from nowhere with no warning and kill and kidnap. When we finally meet the Fae they are enigmatic, ruthless and arrogant, but they keep saying they have a reason for their actions.

I loved the plot for this book, and I have no idea where it is going next. Each chapter was a fresh and new direction and I loved how unpredictable it was. It felt like a very fresh approach to New Adult fiction with it’s blend of dystopia and urban fantasy. It was an incredibly enjoyable read and I can’t wait to read the next instalment.

Review: Twilight's Herald (Aileen Travers Series Book 5) by T A White

Twilight's Herald Twilight's Herald by T.A. White
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

TA White just gets better with every book published. I did a re-read of the series in the run up to this release date and I’m glad I did because I’d forgotten how much I love this series and this book just makes me love it even more.

Aileen is finally settling into a life that includes the vampires on a regular basis, even her lover is one! She’s also earning a living as sort of PI to the supernatural community, after she kept finding herself in situations that no one else could do because they didn’t know anyone across species lines to ask for help. Being the neutral party that she was for several years made her a lot of friends of different species and those contacts have come in useful if founding her new business. She is actually coming to appreciate being a vampire even if it’s really inconvenient to fall unconscious when the sun comes up.

However, when a strange man tries to hire Aileen for a job and his power is off the scale, Aileen’s alarm bells start to ring. Managing to get away isn’t easy, but she knows it was the right choice. Sadly this job offer isn’t one that’s going to go away.

I really love how we get to see Aileen’s relationships with the vampires change over the course of this book, and some of the fae we have been introduced to reveal a bit more of their personality. Connor is hanging around quite a lot and his character is fantastic, a bit like a cross between a fae and a vampire in experience and personality. He proves his worth as Aileen’s ‘older brother’.

The plot in this book is excellent as always and I loved every paragraph. I know I’ll re-read it at some point, probably before the last book in the series comes out next year and once the series is complete I’ll re-read it over again several times more in the coming years. This is a series that stands up to repeated reads, because the characters are so rich and complex and the plot is fascinating. This book definitely meets and exceeds the standards set by the rest of the series. You should read it immediately.

Review: Dawn's Envoy (Aileen Travers Series Book 4) by T A White

Dawn's Envoy Dawn's Envoy by T.A. White
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Impressive story telling

This writer is becoming one of my favourites. The characters TA White writes are full of conflicts, passions, fun and sorrow. They dance on bar tops as they sing karaoke and then fight golems with aid of trolls. They are fantastical and frightening and the writer captures the beauty and terror of the vampires and fae brilliantly.

Along with the characters the author tells a brilliant story. The plots dance and twist throughout the individual books and across the whole series.

Like I said, this author is definitely becoming one of my favourites. You really should read the whole series, it's wonderful!

Review: Switch & Burn (Royal Bastards MC: Idaho Chapter Series Book 1) by Bink Cummings

Switch & Burn Switch & Burn by Bink Cummings
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hot Bikers

I love Bink Cummings. She creates such wonderful characters. In this novella that is part of a series created by multiple authors about different chapters of the same MC she creates a new group of bikers and weaves them into the existing ones.

This chapter of The Royal Bastards MC is made up of a small group of brothers who are all damaged in some way. They earn their way through underground fights. Burn is the VP and basically runs the place because his Dad is the Pres and really only interested in sex and booze.

Burn was tortured by having gasoline poured over him and being lit on fire. His burns are sensitive to touch and he feels ugly. He hasn’t really been involved with anyone for years.

Switch is a new young guy that turns up, brought by Bonez and Whiskey from Corrupted Chaos MC. He was rescued from traffickers but won’t speak, won’t take part in counselling and acts out violently, a perfect fit for their chapter. Burn takes him under his wing and moves him into his rooms to make sure he doesn’t get into trouble.

These two guys aren’t able to communicate properly but that doesn’t stop them understanding each other. I loved their bond. I really liked all the characters and felt that there was definite scope for Bink to expand the universe somewhat and work with these great characters in future books and maybe mash up some MC worlds!

As always this was a well written, passionate and interesting book. The plot is straight forward, which is par for the course in a novella, but the story is no less heart felt and intriguing for it. It’s made me want to look at some of the other books in this series to see if I can find some new MC writers to add to my list of those I enjoy reading. I have faith there will be one or two!

This is not a paranormal romance, this is definitely an Urban Fantasy with some very very slow burn romance going on. However, there are definitely some sparks flying in this book between Aileen and Liam.

It’s a few months since Caroline was bitten by the werewolf and she has refused to see Aileen or pass on information to her in that time, blaming Aileen for her situation. This means Aileen is quite surprised when she finds Caroline at her door. It turns out Caroline is like Aileen in that she doesn’t want to be controlled, and really hates being part of the pack. Plus, she’s been having problems with one of the wolves out on the Farm. It also turns out that she has demon taint from the incident where she was turned, making her much more dangerous.

When Aileen hides her overnight it leads to the wolves demanding she be incarcerated whilst they find Caroline and the vampires jump on board with that idea. The vampires take every opportunity to draw Aileen into the fold and she is kicking and screaming the whole way.

I like that this book was able to help Aileen get a perspective on the reasons why a yearling vampire is usually bound to service, she just happens to be very unusual. In arguing with Caroline, Aileen’s eyes are opened by her own reasoning. That doesn’t mean she’s happy about the vampires taking over things.

Aileen seems to be moving onwards in her life after getting stuck somewhat after her transition. Having Caroline back in her life has done her some good.

Review: Blood Of Kings (Transfusion Saga Book 3) by Stephanie Hudson

Blood Of Kings Blood Of Kings by Stephanie Hudson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Negotiating for Demons

In this book we see how Amelia and Lucius start to build their relationship together. More importantly how they negotiate because they have two very different expectations of how life is going to go. These different points of view are interesting, especially as the author chooses to change the POV back and forth between Amelia and Lucius in sections, sort of covering the same ground, but told from different viewpoints and filling in the missing information from the other POV.

I really enjoyed the descriptions of Lucius’ mountain lair, which is actually more inside the mountain than on it. His personal quarters sound amazing!

There is a lot of information that we are missing, especially where it comes to Lucius and half of me wonders if it would have been explained in the previous series, if I’d read that, but I have faith that all will be revealed in the end, because he has to reveal it to Amelia, which means we will get the information too. I’m almost certain I’m going to have to read the first series after this one, because it sounds like a LOT happens in it and if it’s anything like this series, I’ll love it.

Review: Midnight's Emissary (Aileen Travers Series Book 2) by T A White

Midnight's Emissary Midnight's Emissary by T.A. White
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Story Gets Even Better

I have fallen heavily for Aileen Travers. She’s a newbie vampire who constantly butts heads with beings more scary and powerful than she will be for centuries. She doesn’t care if she will be smushed into little bits she just won’t be controlled. She’s a master at messing with people, a skill she didn’t master in the army, just polished and honed it.

Some time has passed since the last book and Aileen has been continuing to work as a messenger and Liam, the vampire enforcer, has left her alone. He was supposed to give her some basic help but he disappeared instead. She’s still tied to the sorcerer but he’s wearing a cuff that stops him from using magic on her, so she’s pretty safe from him. So life has been pretty peaceful, until she gets a new job. One with the vampires and it involves her sire.

This book takes Aileen further into the supernatural world. She is learning more day by day about the beings she is surrounded with. She also has to rely on her rapidly developing detective skills. Her position as a messenger leads her to all supernatural communities and gives her a somewhat neutral position, which helps her find information when others can’t. She’s very good at finding the right people to help.

The plot is complicated and subtle. It draws the reader in and reveals hidden little pieces of information as you go. It’s masterfully done, and all with the wit and intelligence of a fantastic lead characters. I can’t wait to see what Aileen does next!

Review: Shadow's Messenger (Aileen Travers Series Book 1) by T A White

Shadow's Messenger Shadow's Messenger by T.A. White
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Enjoyable Urban Fantasy

Aileen Travers is a vampire. She’s not been one for very long. She came home on leave from the army and got bitten in a nightclub and left for dead. Waking up in a morgue was a little shocking for the staff there, almost as much as it was for her.

Now out of the army, she works as a bicycle courier in the supernatural world. They have a system whereby the courier pays a penalty clause if the delivery is not made on time. This time she makes a mistake in taking a job for a sorcerer, because none of the other couriers are stupid enough to take the job.

I like how Aileen is a seriously underpowered. She’s a baby vampire, with nobody teaching her and she’s having to guess at half of the things she needs to do. But also like that she has a iron will that has helped keep her family safe in a way that is very unusual. I also like that she has army training and knows how to think laterally to get things done. I love her sense of humour.

““You have a smart mouth,” (he) observed. Not usually, it was just that facing hopeless situations brought out the sarcastic in me. I blamed TV. Too many plucky heroines when facing the big bads. It had affected my behaviour, I swear.”

Her personality makes so much sense when you take into account that she’s intelligent, went into the army, spent a year in a Forward Operating Base, and therefore she saw action. She’s adapt at getting around orders, without breaking them, which is useful considering she’s dealing with much older and more powerful supernatural creatures than herself.

It’s good world building, great plot that sucks you along and a set of characters you want to know more about. I really enjoyed the book and can’t wait to read the next one.

Review: Venom Of God (Transfusion Saga Book 2) by Stephanie Hudson

Venom Of God Venom Of God by Stephanie Hudson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Action Hero Time

It appears that this is actually a spin-off series from Afterlife and there is a LOT of backstory in those books as there are many many books. However, I don’t feel like there is masses of information missing, just that there is history there I am unaware of. The author handles the hints of past stories well, as everyone has a history, especially vampire demons with 2000 years under their belts.

This book finds Amelia incredibly angry with her father when she discovers that her life in London is not quite as independent as she first thought. It turns out that her father has spies based in her building and it seems like his owns the building she lives in. She is so angry she decides to run away from this tainted life and arranges with her friend to help mislead her watchers.

When she is going over photographs of the box she makes a breakthrough that scares her and she immediately decides to run to Germany and Lucius.

This book has everything. It has car chases, bombs, hot sex scenes, violent hand to hand combat, deceit, lies and hostage taking. Really I don’t think anything from the action film genre was left out. It makes for a very exciting read. I can’t wait to read what happens next, because Lucius and Amelia seem all set to have some humdinger battles coming up.

Review: Mag: Loyalty (Badass Bravo Series Book Three) by L Ann Marie

Mag: Loyalty: Badass is in the showing! Book Three Mag: Loyalty: Badass is in the showing! Book Three by L. Ann Marie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bravo Rising Starts To See The Big Picture

This book is about Mag, SAA for Bravo Rising a Badass MC Affliate. His son is 10 year old Tyson who has been a wheelchair for a very long time but is incredibly bright, friendly and personable. Mag’s sister is AJ, who is the VP’s Ol’ Lady. They haven’t been with this section of Badass for very long but Mag is finding his true home at last and using all the Badass philosophies his Dad taught him. He’s making sure to pass on those lessons to his own son and the Alpha-Bits.

In a previous book Mag hooked up with Leya the owner of the ice-cream parlour. She’s not been in town long either and is mourning the death of her young daughter, who had cancer. She really likes Mag, but she’s scared to get involved too quickly as her ex was not great and left when their daughter was born with Downs Syndrome.

I kind of liked that a big chunk of this book was spent with the couple not actually together or really talking directly too each other much as Leya got her head around something serious with Mag. Mag was really sweet and gave her time whilst he got on with being an all round awesome guy.

It’s a very sweet love story and left most of the drama outside the relationship and more with ongoing problems the club was having with attacks being made against them. Some interesting bits and pieces were also revealed by the head honchos as BSC. Things are ramping up again.

Review: Transfusion (Transfusion Saga Book 1) by Stephanie Hudson

Transfusion Transfusion by Stephanie Hudson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent Paranormal Romance

It’s so refreshing to have a really good paranormal romance set in the UK. To be honest, it’s not so much a romance at this point as a paranormal longing for romance novel, though I’m pretty sure that will change in the rest of the series.

Amelia, or Emmie to her friend and Fae or Faith to her family is a hard working, independent woman who happens to like Star Trek and collects Lego models of the Death Star. She also happens to be brilliant at her job, passionate about ancient history and has access to one of the oldest beings on the planet, otherwise known as Dad. She is purely mortal but her parents are King and Queen of the Supernatural world, which makes her highly unusual in both the mortal world and the supernatural one. She isn’t comfortable on either side of the line.

Amelia is 27 years old and has been in love with Lucius since long before she understood what it meant, until 7 years ago when he crushed and humiliated her. It was this humiliation that led to her fleeing to London and burying herself in her humanity. Now working at the British Museum, her father has brought a mysterious box to her, to ask for her help in working out what the symbols on the outside mean. This one box leads to an upheaval in her life that should could never have envisaged.

I really enjoyed this book. I wasn’t expecting to because I’d never heard of the author, but the writing style was smooth, natural and entertaining. I liked Amelia as a character. She was determined, intelligent, didn’t shy away from who she was, and had good solid relationships with her friends and family. She had a lively curiosity and is able to take care of herself. It makes for an interesting mix of character traits that blend smoothly and believably. She also handled her life being turned upside down quite well!

The plot was interesting intellectually as well as fun to read, and kept me intrigued right until the the last paragraph. I then wanted to immediately download the next book, which I’m about to go and do.

Review: Serendipity (Damnation MC Series Book 1) by Grace McGinty

Serendipity Serendipity by Grace McGinty
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

War Between Heaven and Hell

This book picks up the story of Serendipity the woman that Hope met in purgatory in a previous book Hell’s Redemption book by Grace McGinty. Serendipity has been impregnated by an angel and said angel is trying to track her down to hide the results of his sin. Hope hides Serendipity with an MC, after she meets one of it’s members in a tattoo parlour. Being empathic means that Hope can tell when someone is protective and she chose Cain as someone she believed she could trust with Serendipity’s safety.

Once at the MC she discovers that she is amongst beings that are not all entirely human. Most of the members are, but four were changed 35 years before into immortal beings so they could take revenge for the death of the woman and baby they loved. Now they are faced with a pregnant woman with the face of an angel and their hearts begin to beat once again.

I loved this book. It has everything, world building, characters with so much depth, peril and angst, it’s pretty much my ideal book. Throw in the fact it’s a Reverse Harem and filled with some pretty hot stuff and it’s my dream book. It ends on an AWFUL cliffhanger, but the next book is out for pre-order, so I’m going to go and download it IMMEDIATELY!!!!

Review: Single Dad's Wife: A Fake Marriage Romance by Lara Swann

Single Dad's Wife: A Fake Marriage RomanceSingle Dad's Wife: A Fake Marriage Romance by Lara Swann
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was given an opportunity to review an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book at no cost, in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Nathan is a single dad to a gorgeous 3 year old girl. He’s a doctor and owns his own family practice in a small town in Connecticut. One of his best employees is Jessica, another doctor, who is slightly younger, who has been with the practice for 3 years and does much of the business admin side of things as well as being a doctor. She’s essential to the running of the practice, especially with Nathan having his daughter. His ex-wife left when his daughter was 8 months old and never came back. Now she’s back and suing for full custody.

Nathan’s lawyer tells him that having a wife in the picture would make it much more likely that the custody hearing would go in his favour and after several weeks of visitation etc not going well, he is determined to do something drastic and asks Jessica to marry him in exchange for a full partnership in his practice.

The ‘Fake Relationship’ trope is one that I actually enjoy. I don’t know why, but it appeals to me for people to be forced together for some reason and find out they actually like each other a lot. This version was done very well. The build up to the actual decision made the idea seem reasonable (which is often hard to do). I liked both Nathan and Jessica. They are both really nice people and genuinely care about their patients, their family and their friends. They both go into the arrangement with their eyes wide open and with the best of intentions.

The build up to their real relationship was gradually and carefully done. It wasn’t instant and it wasn’t perfect. I liked that everything wasn’t plain sailing with their relationship or their situation. It made it feel more real. In fact, that is one of the things I liked about this book. The characters and their situation felt real. It felt like ordinary people got into an extraordinary situation for the best of reasons. When things went wrong there wasn’t any lashing out. There wasn’t weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth, they behaved like grown ups even when things weren’t going well.

If Nathan and Jessica were real people I’d love to call them my friends, because they really are interesting and nice characters. This may not be the dramatic, dire circumstances, all or nothing alpha romance that is popular, but this is the kind of romance that leaves you feeling good about people and that cannot be underestimated in a book.

Review: Collateral Damage (Gamer Girls Series Book 5) by Auryn Hadley and Kitty Cox

Collateral Damage Collateral Damage by Auryn Hadley and Kitty Cox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow!!

Well, I knew it was going to be good, but I was still blown away but this book.

We finally get to know FBI Agent Jason Raige aka Cynister in this book. He has been installed at a college in New York to monitor the situation with militant anti-Muslim groups on the campus, and at the same time is getting his degree. He chose that campus because Murder (Samir) was attending college there and he wanted to keep an eye out for him.

At the same college was a pretty MENA (Middle Eastern North African) girl, Zara, who was in some of his classes. When she has a PTSD episode he runs out of the class to help her. He takes her home to meet his service dog that helps him with his PTSD. It turns out he was the sniper that saved her when she was involved in a shooting of Middle Eastern appearing students at her previous college.

This romance is exceptionally rocky because of both of them having PTSD and Jason’s job, but the romance is also beautiful, as are the friendships formed with the other gamers from the other books in the series.

I adored both of these main characters and they are perfect for each other even though on the surface they seem to so wrong.

I loved getting to know Murder more too, as he stepped up to help Zara so much and became a true friend. She even set her up on a gaming pc so she could join in with his outfit, even though she was terrible at it and died a lot in game.

The tension was ramped up in this book towards solving the problem of the KoG and you feel like you could almost see the finishing line if you could just get over this one big hill. I can’t wait to see how the last book turns out because I feel like it’s going to blow my socks off.

Read this book, read this entire series and you won’t be disappointed. You don’t need to know anything about gamer culture but I bet you feel like you want to try a game after you read it!

Review: Misconception (Unrequited Series Book 2) by Julia Wolf

Misconception Misconception by Julia Wolf
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Unplanned

I’d probably give this 3.5 ⭐️ if I could.

Michaela, or Mickey as she is known at work, is a tour manager for musicians. Several years earlier she worked on a tour where Unrequited was the supporting act and the young lead singer, Mo, flirted with her and she laughed off his attentions as being a joke. But when she ran into him in a bar in Las Vegas he wasn’t as young, and she’d had a couple of drinks and he was fun to hang out with. One thing lead to another and they spent the night together.

Michaela had been burnt before by rocker boys and had a nice shiny divorce to prove it. She didn’t expect to be taking anything home from her reckless one night stand but it turns out her body had other ideas.

Michaela 8 years older than Mo, she is prickly, hard working, and afraid to commit. Mo is flirty, attractive, a bit of a slut and has a massive heart. This book tells the story of their ups and downs as they try to negotiate a relationship based on the results of one night together.

I enjoyed the book but wanted to slap their heads together a few times. Michaela didn’t convey her feelings enough and Mo got wound up to easily and was a bit inconsiderate. However, on the whole I enjoyed the book and was pleased to witness the HEA.

Review: Never-Ending Nightmare (AIR Series Book 5) by Amanda Booloodian

Never-Ending Nightmare (AIR Book 5)Never-Ending Nightmare by Amanda Booloodian
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nightmare In The Jungle

This story sees Cassie and her team joining Boone on a mission with his new team deep into the jungle, in South America. They have heard reports of a ‘Nightmare’ based on cave drawings made thousands of miles and centuries apart.

Everyone is uneasy on this mission. Going into a jungle is not something Cassie is particularly trained for, but she’s willing to go because she wants to help Boone after their experiences together trapped in the gremlin’s world. She’s willing to go on her own, but the rest of the team insist on joining her as they don’t trust anyone else to look after as well as they do.

Boone's new team are pretty odd and a working relationship is difficult to get running smoothly, but they persevere because they are going into dangerous territory.

This book is a little darker than the others, with sinister plots afoot. Tremendous strain is put on Cassie and she’s lucky to have help from unexpected quarters.

There wasn’t as much light relief in this book, but the plot has become pretty interesting. I can’t walk away from it now, so roll on the next book, so I can see what happens next!

Review: The Sentinel (Sentinel Series Book 1) by C Cato

The Sentinel (Sentinel Series Book 1)The Sentinel by C. Cato
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Imaginative World Building

I’d probably give this book 4.5 ⭐️ if I could.

Dr Sonya Temple is a highly intelligent woman. She’s at the forefront of nanotechnology and she and her partner Ian have been working on a way to use nanobots to cure cancer. One day she’s meeting her mother for lunch and the next moment she wakes up in a strange place, with people she doesn’t know and alarms going off. She is terrified, angry and confused. The three men and woman she is with also seem confused but also to know more than she does.

Sonya and her companions went into stasis in 2025 and woke up 200 years later in a world transformed and alien to them. They have to find a way to survive in a hostile world without knowledge of the way society is structured or a way of getting by. Luckily Sonya’s companions were all ex-military and have survival training.

This strange and complex book is beautiful and poignant. It tells of humanity losing it’s way and evil being done in the name of survival. Sonya is intelligent, compassionate and guarded. She doesn’t trust easily and her situation doesn’t make that any easier. She’s also drawn completely to Cole, the man in charge of her companions, and it seems he feels the same way.

Cole is strong, commanding, determined and tender-hearted. He’s an amazing character and the magnetism felt between him and Sonya is impressive. However, this is a slow burn Reverse Harem and this book is spent getting know each other as well as the society they have landed in.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next in the series.

Review: Hunting Isla (Black Mountain Mates Series Book 1) by Grace McGinty

Hunting Isla (Black Mountain Mates #1)Hunting Isla by Grace McGinty
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Easy Entertaining Read

This was a fun bite-sized book. I really enjoyed meeting Isla and the guys and the story was told with Grace McGinty’s usual flair and taste for humour and heat.

Isla is a 17 year old girl who went into foster care after living on the streets, for several years. She has four friends, three guys who share an apartment and Cara who introduced her to them. One night Cara comes to Isla and begs her to leave, giving her a car and a suitcase with some cash. Isla trusts her friend and runs, only to find something in the back seat she wasn’t expecting.

Isla is a strong and determined young woman with a kind and compassionate side. She loves deeply and gives her loyalty completely when she does give it.

The guys, Axel, Archer and Wyatt are fantastic characters, as well, and I really enjoyed getting to know them. For a novella, this author creates and conveys characters exceedingly well, as often with this format the characters lose a little of their resonance.

The plot was fairly straight forward, though imaginative and a little different, and I really enjoyed working my way through the book to find out what happened next.

If you are looking for a great quick distraction then I recommend this book. It’s pure escapism and you will enjoy it.
