Review: Amber (Jewels Cafe Series Book 1) by Mia Harlan

Amber Amber by Mia Harlan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Simple Straight Forward PNR RH Fun

Amber and Julian have been best friends for 6 years. After graduating college for those with wonky magic they decide to open a cafe in a supernatural town, where wards prevent humans from seeing anything supernatural. They are completely broke and the cafe is not making any money.

Amber is miserable because she has loved her best friend since they met and they are living and working together and she doesn’t want to ruin anything by telling him how she feels. She’s also worried they’ll have to sell up and she’ll never really see him again.

Then Julian decides to cast a spell on the Pumpkin Spice Latte that Amber drinks and everything goes haywire.

It’s a very straight forward plot, based on nice world building. The characters are sweet and endearing and there is no angst. It’s light and sweet and a little saucy. The book is complete escapism and is a very fast read.
