Review: Midnight's Emissary (Aileen Travers Series Book 2) by T A White

Midnight's Emissary Midnight's Emissary by T.A. White
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Story Gets Even Better

I have fallen heavily for Aileen Travers. She’s a newbie vampire who constantly butts heads with beings more scary and powerful than she will be for centuries. She doesn’t care if she will be smushed into little bits she just won’t be controlled. She’s a master at messing with people, a skill she didn’t master in the army, just polished and honed it.

Some time has passed since the last book and Aileen has been continuing to work as a messenger and Liam, the vampire enforcer, has left her alone. He was supposed to give her some basic help but he disappeared instead. She’s still tied to the sorcerer but he’s wearing a cuff that stops him from using magic on her, so she’s pretty safe from him. So life has been pretty peaceful, until she gets a new job. One with the vampires and it involves her sire.

This book takes Aileen further into the supernatural world. She is learning more day by day about the beings she is surrounded with. She also has to rely on her rapidly developing detective skills. Her position as a messenger leads her to all supernatural communities and gives her a somewhat neutral position, which helps her find information when others can’t. She’s very good at finding the right people to help.

The plot is complicated and subtle. It draws the reader in and reveals hidden little pieces of information as you go. It’s masterfully done, and all with the wit and intelligence of a fantastic lead characters. I can’t wait to see what Aileen does next!
