Review: Twilight's Herald (Aileen Travers Series Book 5) by T A White

Twilight's Herald Twilight's Herald by T.A. White
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

TA White just gets better with every book published. I did a re-read of the series in the run up to this release date and I’m glad I did because I’d forgotten how much I love this series and this book just makes me love it even more.

Aileen is finally settling into a life that includes the vampires on a regular basis, even her lover is one! She’s also earning a living as sort of PI to the supernatural community, after she kept finding herself in situations that no one else could do because they didn’t know anyone across species lines to ask for help. Being the neutral party that she was for several years made her a lot of friends of different species and those contacts have come in useful if founding her new business. She is actually coming to appreciate being a vampire even if it’s really inconvenient to fall unconscious when the sun comes up.

However, when a strange man tries to hire Aileen for a job and his power is off the scale, Aileen’s alarm bells start to ring. Managing to get away isn’t easy, but she knows it was the right choice. Sadly this job offer isn’t one that’s going to go away.

I really love how we get to see Aileen’s relationships with the vampires change over the course of this book, and some of the fae we have been introduced to reveal a bit more of their personality. Connor is hanging around quite a lot and his character is fantastic, a bit like a cross between a fae and a vampire in experience and personality. He proves his worth as Aileen’s ‘older brother’.

The plot in this book is excellent as always and I loved every paragraph. I know I’ll re-read it at some point, probably before the last book in the series comes out next year and once the series is complete I’ll re-read it over again several times more in the coming years. This is a series that stands up to repeated reads, because the characters are so rich and complex and the plot is fascinating. This book definitely meets and exceeds the standards set by the rest of the series. You should read it immediately.
