Review: Sapphire & Lotus (Dragon Kin Series Book 1) by Audrey Faye

Sapphire & Lotus Sapphire & Lotus by Audrey Faye
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dragons and Elves Learning To Fly Together

Sapphire is a 14 year older elf girl who feels unimportant in her large and important elf clan. When she runs away she gets lost. She is drawn to an egg, high in the trees. She feels the need to climb up to rescue the egg, little knowing it belongs a dragon.

This story feels heavily influenced by Anne McCaffrey’s Dragons of Pern series, something I grew up reading. In the same way that the dragons of Pern bonded with humans, the dragons in this book bond with elves, also often when quite young.

The story is about bravery and overcoming fear. It’s about duty and love and picking yourself up one more time when you don’t believe you can, just to achieve something that needs doing.

It’s a sweet story and filled with morals and ethics and all that good stuff. It would be a great book for younger adult.
