Review: Maelstrom (World Fallen Series Book 2) by Susanna Strom

Maelstrom Maelstrom by Susanna Strom
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Evil That Men Do

I’d probably give this book 4.5 ⭐️ if I could.

This is the second book in a continuing series of connected books. This book follows on directly from the first in the series and should be considered part of a duet within the series as a whole. There are no cliffhangers at the end of this book, though there is a hook for the next book in the series.

Now everyone is back together again, the group is leaving Portland and heading to Valhalla where Bear, the man who gave Kyle a lift, lives with his family. Portland is a smoking ruin and Valhalla seems like a good place to go. Their journey is not easy and they encounter some very unpleasant people on the way. The counter to that is they also meet some very good people too.

There is a lot of peril involved in their journey, not only from the people they come across but also the wildlife and scenery. One thing that is certain about their journey is that it only succeeds in drawing the group tighter together, especially MacKenzie and Ripper, whose relationship goes from strength to strength.

The plot of this book is excellent, with intriguing characters and desperate situations. The danger makes the emotions heightened and the romance and passions more charged. There are also some very sweet moments, not only between MacKenzie and Ripper but between Ripper and Kyle as they learn to become allies.

In this book, we see the depravity of evil men who are allowed to operate unchecked by the law as society breaks down. We also see how good people can step up to prevent it.

This book rounds off the story of MacKenzie and Ripper really nicely meaning the next book, which deals with Kyle is set up to take the story into a new segment. I’m looking forward to reading how Kyle does with the new experiences and different outlook on the world.
