Review: A Girl Named Blue: The Adventure Begins (The Adventures of Blue Faust Series Book 1) by Cecilia Randell

A Girl Named Blue: The Adventure Begins A Girl Named Blue: The Adventure Begins by Cecilia Randell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fascinating Sci Fi/Fantasy

Blue has moved with her mother’s job - again. She doesn’t mind, it’s just the way her life is. What she does mind is the death of her father the year before. They were each other’s best friend and company when her mother was working late again. She doesn’t resent her mother’s passion for her work on renewables and sustainability but she does get lonely sometimes.

Her move has allowed her to start her senior year at school, at the beginning of the year for once. She decides that this is the year of ‘New Things’. She plans to push herself out of her comfort zone, make new friends, do new things and go to new places. This helps her make some new friends pretty quickly.

One day they decide to go on a hike. They reach the look out spot, and then all of a sudden find themselves in a new world. Falling through a portal to different world is not what the teenagers expected themselves to be doing at the start of the day.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s writing style is easy to read and fluid, which always helps. I also like that Blue is a pretty well adjusted young woman. She is fun and tries hard to be supportive and caring towards her friends. She is also capable of holding back her fears in order to get things done.

I really enjoyed the relationships between all the friends. They are made up of two groups who have history, but no current active friendships and Blue changes that, pulling them together.

The story-line is fun, interesting and intriguing. I really enjoyed the world building, or should I say universe building. The characters are well rounded and interesting. I want to learn more about them after reading this book, which is a good indication of how enjoyable a book is. I am definitely going to read the next book in the series to find out what Blue is up to.
