Review: Awaken (The Sleeping Court Series Book 2) by Dagmar Avery and K Margaret

Awaken Awaken by Dagmar Avery & K Margaret
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Plot Heats Up

I’d give this book 4.5 stars if I could.

In my review of the first book I said that there wasn’t much new plot-wise in the start of this series, but things are moving in a more unique direction in this second book.

One of the things I like about this series is that the Captain of the Princess’ Guards, Arien, is a woman, and a fox shifter rather than an all powerful fae. She is strong and focused and loves Verity, and is loved in return. It’s quite unusual to get a woman in a reverse harem and I like it.

I also enjoyed that Verity is made alliances with other houses, not just collecting people for her guard. She also acquires staff. All these people are interesting and diverse in nature and personality. The authors have done a good job in creating characters who are different from each other.

As Verity gathers guards, staff and alliances the attacks on her court step up a gear and it is up to her guards to work out how to keep her safe. Through all the challenges, Verity starts to feel her magic growing and gathering in strength.

Things are definitely becoming more interesting and I can’t wait to read the next book.
